The Dogbreath, The Undergrade, Stone Cat Blues + Dirty Backbeat DJ and Chucklevision Sound System
Bloody 'ell. Panic stations. At 7.30 we had bands everywhere, no snare stand, flu outbreaks and chaos breaking out everywhere. But the unflappable Attik staff soon helped us all pull round and got the doors open in time. Lee and Rob from the Dirty Backbeats started spinning the disks and everyone was filled with anticipation.
Pretty soon the place was full to bursting and the doors to the upstairs were opened for Stone Cat Blues' Snake Drive debut. Heavy blues oozed out of the speakers recalling AC/DC and various other old lags - yet this was a bunch of mere yoofs rocking the place in their own unique style. By the end of their set they had called a guest vocalist up to belt out Sweet Child of Mine and the audience were in the palms of their hands.
Then cameth the Undergrade. At once evoking the Doors and the Specials, The Undergrade add a cheeky back of the bus Leicester charm to their sound and have come up with something truely unique. On this performance their reputation as one of Leicester's best bands was clearly well deserved.
Finally the main attraction stepped up to the ring. Dogbreath quite simply rocked the house with their high energy punk blues. Most exciting of all people actually danced! I'm not talking about rocking from foot to foot dancing - when Dogbreath played people shook their funky thang and leapt around the room. Slide guitars wailed, gruff vocals intoned and the people cried out more, more. Fantastic!
After numerous encores Dogbreath walked off tired and happy and we all retired downstairs for the Chucklevision extravaganza.
