The Immortal Lee County Killers, The High Plane Drifters, Pig Iron Joe + Chucklevision Sound System
Once more unto the breach dear friends. And this time the breach was being made in the walls of Leicester's oldest and greatest rock and roll venue the Charlotte. Snake Drive had briefly gone up in the world due to the visit from our American friends and the co-promoting efforts from Magic Teapot - bless them all.
Chucklevision climbed into the DJ cage and kicked things off with a bit of Johnny Cash while Pig Iron Joe changed into their new best clothes and hit the stage. Jumping and shouting they drove their valve amps and WEMs into a feedback frenzy until they stumbled from the stage dripping wet for a post rock ciggie.
Next up came The High Plane Drifters. Twitching and riffing for all they were worth they whipped the crowd up. "Thank you to the lovely Headphoned boys" they cried before unleashing another two piece riffing lump of joy.
Finally the magnificent Immortal Lee County Killers took to the stage. Now a three piece (guitar, drums and keys) outfit they came on like it was 1969 and 1976 all rolled into one. The light show added to the psychedelic head fuck brought on by guitar/keys swamp interplay. Wait a minute the drummers playing blindfold - hold on now he's singing Ledbelly at the front of the stage.
kkkkkkrrrrraannngggggggg!!!!!
as the last notes of ILCKs rang out and the lights came up we realised that we had once again witnessed history at Snake Drive. Most peopled crawled home with just their memories. Only the hardcore drove on down to the Attik and carried on drinking. For them the night had only just begun... |
