The Dirty Backbeats, The Zeema Zees, Pig Iron Joe + the Chucklevision Sound System.
"It's a fucking barn! We'll never fill it!"
July comes round and a move to The Musician is in order. Snake Drive has been getting bigger and recently we've been busting at the seams so it's time to flex our muscles. However as the Chucklevision boys flip the first CD into the tray it seems unlikely that we'll ever get enough people to fill a match box.
Oh ye of little faith. Pretty soon Pig Iron Joe hit the stage with a brand new line up and as they built it, the people came. We always knew that they would. Neet and Grace sang like the dirty blues angels that they are and the evening was kicked off a storm.
Next up came Wigan's garage rock gods The Zeema Zees. Impossibly tight and dressed as sharp as you want it they rocked Snake Drive to the ground. It may be their first visit to Leicester, but running bass, fiery guitar and mesmerizing drums ensure that they will be back, most likely at the top of the bill next time.
Finally cometh the hour, cometh the band. The Dirty Backbeats return to Snake Drive with a heroes welcome. We always knew that they were good, but as the audience bounced along with them we are once again transported to rock and roll heaven. The eccentricity of the Backbeats keeps growing and if you closed your eyes this time you couldn't help but feel that you were listening to the hard rockin love children of the Bonzo Dog Do-dah Band. - Fancy a cup of tea anyone - chucka, chucka, bang, bang, owww!
Then back over to Chucklevision. A few people even danced across the Musician floor as the DJs did their thing.
One of the best Snake Drive's for a while. Surely we can't keep this momentum up! |
