Snake Drive XII: Friday 2nd September 2005

Trickster, The Jack of Hearts Band, Chapter 24, Pig Iron Joe and DJing from The Dirty Backbeats and The Chucklevision Sound System

A couple of days before and a band dropped out, and then they were in again, in, out, in, out shake it all about, you do the Snake Drive cokey and you turn around and that's what it's all about - hey! So that is how we ended up with four bands on the bill, not something that we are particularly keen on - but hell, it happens and we roll with it!

So downstairs the Dirty Backbeats stoke up the coal and top up the boiler to get the Attik's steam powered DJ booth up and running. Pretty soon the pistons are chugging and a typically vintage selection of platters are filling the air.

Meanwhile upstairs Pig Iron Joe are plugging in and feeding back ready to get the live room moving. A quick rocking set that turns on a sixpence and they're off again.

Next up were Chapter 24, who prooved to be the surprise hit of the night. Fairy rock may not mean much to you yet, but it will do my friend, oh yes it will do! Early Pink Floyd meets Patty Smith meets Tolkien. Its grrrrrrrreeeeaaaaattt!

Next up step The Jack of Hearts Band who deliver another one of the evenings surprises. Originally booked as a greasy rock band they have reformed themselves into a Chicago blues outfit complete with piano man driving the boogie along. A few killer tracks of their own are complemented by some classics from the blues songbook. Milkcow Blues any one?

Finally up step Trickster. Eclectic roots rock from the stable that brought you classic folk rockers Seven Little Sisters. Combing backwards and forwards across world music they spice up their rock and roll with blues, ska, latin and who knows what else. They got funky and people danced, they pulled on Tristram from Pig Iron Joe to play harp and people gawped, pulled out the trombone and people thought "bloody 'ell - you don't see this every day" - great guys!

And once those feet start dancing, they aint ever gonna stop. Happy feed, they got those happy feet and those happy feet are going to head downstairs and pogo the rest of the night away with the Chucklevision Sound System.
